Easy Drop Biscuits Recipe (1)

What are Drop Biscuits?

Drop biscuits, unlike rolled biscuits, are simply brought together with flour, baking powder and a sour cream- making them a simple, basic biscuit that can be DROPPED onto a sheet pan to enjoy quickly.

No rolling, no needing a bread maker, no cutting dough- in fact, drop biscuits are one of the most beloved and delicious ways to enjoy bread with dinner.

In fact, this simple recipe for a bread side dish doesn’t even need self rising flour and instead provides a dense and course biscuit- just like the ones you get at seafood restaurants like Red Lobster.

How to Substitute the Sour Cream

Many people don’t love to cook with sour cream (I have learned that in my dip recipes when people always ask about substitutions) and its easy to mix up the ingredients with the same results.

In this case, if you want to forgo the sour cream, you can do the following.

Take out the Sour Cream AND milk (which thins the sour cream) for 1 cup of PLAIN YOGURT (not Greek, just regular plain yogurt).

How to make Drop Biscuits

Preheat oven to 375 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Add flour, seasoning, baking powder and salt to a small bowl and mix well.

Add sour cream and milk and mix well.

Dough will be stiff and may take a little bit to come together.

Fold in shredded cheese.

Serve Drop Biscuits with

  • Jam, Jelly or Honey are great options but may not compliment the seasoning you use, so just note that if you are planning on serving that way, you may want to SKIP THE HERBS.
  • Smother in Sausage Gravy – great option for homemade drop biscuits
  • Just eat with butter! Not gonna lie, this is my favorite way to eat ALL bread. Num, num.
