How to Make Pizza Bake in a Slow Cooker

Cris here.

I have always loved pizza ever since childhood. When I got really sick as a little girl and had to spend a week in the hospital, a family friend visited and told me when I got out she would throw me any kind of party I wanted and I wanted a PIZZA PARTY.

Likewise, one of my favorite family meals was when dad would make deep dish pizza. Mom cooked every night, but dad cooked on pizza nights.

So when I saw a recipe for “monkey bread” pizza in Crock Pot’s I Can Make That in My Slow Cooker CookbookI got to thinking about how to adapt it to familiar flavors I love and this Crock Pot Pizza Bake was born.

Crock Pot Pizza Bake Notes:

  • I used my favorite non-stick 6 quart slow cooker. I would recommend using any 6 quart slow cooker for this recipe.
  • Make sure you use the correct size of biscuit dough so that it will cook through correctly.
  • I am working on testing out my family’s deep dish pizza for a future post that does not use biscuit dough.
  • If you prefer other pizza toppings, feel free to substitute as needed.
  • Looking for more recipes? OurRecipe Findercan help you find exactly what you need.
  • Check out all our favorite recommendations for cookbooks, slowcookers and low carb essentials in ourAmazon Influencer Shop.
  • As with any of our recipes, carb counts, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly. As a result, your nutritional content depends on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish. The auto-calculation is just an automated estimate and should NOT be used for specific dietary needs.
  • The auto-calculation of nutritional information does NOT include bun, tortilla, wrap or salad.
  • Finally, all crock pots cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline. Recipes shouldalways be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

Casserole Crock Testing Update:

  • Per reader request, we have now tested this recipe in our casserole crock. The recipe did fine, but it took less time. It was done between 2 to 2 1/2 hours, not 3.
  • The casserole crock is great for serving the pizza, however, personally I prefer cooking it in a 6 quart because it seems to cook more evenly and turns out a bit puffier.

What Other Home Cooks are Saying

“I made this over the weekend, and it was so yummy!!!!”

Stacy S.

“I made this for dinner and it was a big hit. The biscuits made it soo puffy and good.”

Amy

“Made this today. Can’t believe how easy it was to make and how tasty. Loved the idea.”

I made this today. Actually is is still cooking. Trying to get it to finish.
Followed the recipe in my 6qt. crock pot and after 4 hours the dough was still way under done.
I put it back on high for another hour so we’ll see.
It smelled good and the toppings tasted good it just takes way way longer than 3 hours on low.

      Hi Michael,

This is why we always say, “Finally, all crock pots cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline. Recipes should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.” I hope you found the right timing for your specific slow cooker.

It was very easy to make. I used a Crock-Pot SCCPCCP350-SS Programmable Digital Casserole Crock Slow Cooker, 3.5 quart, Stainless Steel
It cut well and did not fall apart when serving. It tastes very good.

I don’t remember if this recipe is the same as one I got a few years back. In the previous recipe you said you made it in the casserole crock pot. I never knew there was one like that so I promptly looked for it and purchased one when I found it. The Bubble Up Pizza was the first dish I made and people in the apartment complex who were able to share the food with me still comment on how good that was and are wishing I would make it again. I am going to follow this recipe but I will make it in the casserole pot again. I hope if the recipe this time is different that it is still as good as the other one I made. That one was the BOMB!

Can you tell me what kind and brand of biscuits you used( Grand’s, or the cheap 4 tubes hooked together biscuits)

      Hi Christy!
We have used both Grands and the generic jumbo biscuits. The size (16 oz tube) is more important than the brand. We also prefer flaky style to the other kinds. Enjoy!

    Hi Amelia-
I am not really sure that would work… I don’t think the tortillas would set up as a crust like the biscuits… You could always make it crustless I suppose and then just spoon it out. Hope that helps.

      Hi Lisa-
If you have a 6 quart slow cooker, I would try that first. The “biscuit-based” recipes sometimes do just fine in it and other times they turn out flat or not done in the middle when I use my casserole crock. I will test it out soon, but for now I can’t recommend it because I haven’t tried it in my casserole crock. Hope that helps- Enjoy!

      Hi Cheryl!

Cris is on vacation, but I asked her your question. She said they let it cool a bit and were able to get out slices and that the reheated leftovers were definitely sliceable. Enjoy!

I’d love to try this in a ‘Cassie’ crock pot, but not sure if the center dough will cook through thoroughly enough.

      Hi Joe!

Cris is on vacation, but here is what she has to say about using Cassie for this recipe:

I haven’t tried it and usually have about 50/50 luck with biscuit based recipes in the casserole crock. I tend to prefer my 6 quart for recipes like this but if you try it let me know how it goes. Enjoy!
